PROMOTING VISIBILITY OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT IN SR
One of the main tasks of European Parliament Information Office in SR is to make the European Parliament activities visible. On the basis of common project, we participate on fulfilment of this task during the period of March till November 2010. The cooperation includes eighteen events (seminars, workshops, press conferences in Slovakia and Brussels) attended by specialists from each area including members of European Parliament. Besides fulfilment the organizational role by our own project team we also contribute with specialized topics, participation of our own experts and using our own know-how and network.

The discussion seminar Stop denial women rights! took place on March 5, 2010 in the European Information Centre in Bratislava as a first out of eighteen events organized on the bases of common project of European Parliament Information Office in SR and Jenewein Group. Its aim was to evolve the professional discussion focused on current topics: the poverty threat, violence, trade with women etc. The seminar, where members of European Parliament Edit Bauer and Anna Záborská and representatives of the third sector Irena Belohorská, Mária Demeterová and Jana Šípošová appeared was attended by 45 participants and was moderated and professionally led by Mária Nádaždyová, senior program manager of think-tank EPPP.

Olympic Games of human rights >>>
The national round of 12th year of Olympic Games of human rights took place in Liptovský Ján on March 9 and 11, 2010. The main topic was a Multicultural education, however the main task of the games is the development of legal awareness of human rights in all youth communities, humanity, philanthropy, global altruism and the idea if human dignity spreading, education and encouraging of young people in attempt to discover and respect the cultural diversity. The Olympic Games of human rights as a part of the project Life without prejudices is yearly raised by Ministry of Education of Slovak Republic. One of the partners of the games is European Parliament Information Office in SR that led the workshop focused on presentation of European Parliament activities and was the guarantor of essay competition In EU is 19 million of children endangered by poverty in the year of fight against the poverty and social exclusion.

The task of European Parliament in various domains of economic policy >>>
With the aim to discover the answers to questions concerning legislative proceedings against the crisis on both the national and European level, the EDF - European democracy forum organised professional seminar for the students of faculties of economy at universities of Bratislava on March 18, 2010. As one of the main issues were the activities of European Parliament in this area, the partner of the seminar became the European Parliament Information Office in SR. Besides the main guests (Member of European Parliament Sergej Kozlík and Member of Parliament of SR Ivan Štefanec), the director of European Parliament Information Office in SR Robert Hajšel and representatives of Jenewein Group participated on the seminar also 25 students, representatives of several students´ organizations and media.

European Parliament in the context of Lisbon treaty – Bratislava >>>
As a first out of four events for regional journalists organised the European Parliament Information Office in SR professional seminar on March 19, 2010 in Bratislava. The main topics were European Parliament in the context of Lisbon treaty, Activities of European Parliament Information Office in SR, Legislative priorities of European Parliament in 2010, Lisbon treaty and its impact on operation of European Union, Decisions influence on European level or Media and journalists as a basis of democratic system in Europe. Besides the main guests (Edit Bauer, Radovan Geist and Július Lörinz) and representatives of European Parliament Information Office in SR (Robert Hajšel and Ivana Janíková Stavrovská) and Jenewein Group company participated on the seminar also 28 journalists, representatives of SSN, non-governmental organizations (think-tank EPPP etc.) and students.

European Parliament in the context of Lisbon treaty – Košice >>>
European Parliament Information Office in SR in cooperation with Jenewein Group organized soon after the first professional seminar for regional journalists in Bratislava a similar meeting in Košice. In Pension Hradbová on April 9, 2010 met nearly twenty journalists and representatives of regional media to listen to presentations concerning European Parliament, its activities, and operation and current issues. On the seminar appeared: Monika Smolková, Zita Pleštinská, Robert Hajšel, Radovan Geist and Karel Ilja Dvořák.

Threat of seniors by penury and social exclusion >>>
Under the terms of struggling against penury and social exclusion, European Parliament Information Office in SR together with the Representatives of the European Commission in the Slovak Republic, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Christian Seniors Association of Slovakia and with Jenewein Group, has organized the seminar Threat of seniors by penury and social exclusion, which was freely followed by the memorial program of Anton Neuwirth, “messenger of co-existence in Europe”. This event took place on April 17, 2010 in Bojnice in attendance of Anna Záborská, member of European Parliament, Jozef Mikloško, president of the Christian Seniors Association of Slovakia, Ján Benček, honorary president of the Christian Seniors Associations of Slovakia and Robert Hajšel, director of the European Parliament Information Office in SR.

Seminar for regional journalists in Brussels >>>
The seminar for regional journalists in Brussels has been organized by the European Parliament Information Office in SR together with Jenewein Group for the representatives of Slovak media with main focus on European affairs and its policy. This was a three-day seminar with preplanned expert program. Its aim was not only to inform about the actual subjects within the European Parliament, but also to present Brussels as the capital of the European Union and clarify upon detailed processes in the heart of EU the functioning of European institutions - European Parliament, European Commission and Council after acceptance of the Lisbon treaty. Journalists met Maroš Šefčovič, the vice president of the European Commission, Ivan Korčok, deputy of the SR in the EU, Slovak representatives in European Parliament and many other specialists. A part of the programme was the visit of the European Economic and Social Committee, where its members - advisers Martin Krekáč, chairman of Jenewein Group and Patrik Zoltvány, senior partner FIPRA Slovakia held a discussion with the journalists. The final part of the programme was a meeting held in consulting group FIPRA - Finsbury International Policy & Regulatory Advisers with the director of its European office Sebastian Vos.

European Parliament in the context of Lisbon treaty – Komárno >>>
The European Parliament Information Office in SR in cooperation with Jenewein Group organized a professional seminar in Komárno as a third out of four planned events for regional journalists in 2010. The meeting took place on June 18, 2010 and, like the one in March in Bratislava and in April in Košice, it was focused on current topics concerning European Parliament and related changes to the adoption of the Lisbon treaty. The speakers at the seminar were Edit Bauer, Member of European Parliament, Robert Hajšel, Director of European Parliament Information Office in SR and Radovan Geist, Editor-in-Chief of portal EurActiv.sk. The main topics were: EU strategy 2020 - challenges for EU, New European Parliament in the context of Lisbon treaty, the analyst’s point of view to the Lisbon treaty and its impact on EU etc.

European Parliament Information Office in SR in cooperation with University Library at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and with Jenewein Group organized seminar Access to the EU Institutions´ documents. Besides the topics related to European Parliament and changes relevant to the Lisbon treaty enter into force there occurred current topics for the target group: Activity of European Documentary Centers in Slovakia, Searching documents of EU Institutions, European Law database presentation and Introduction of information portal EurActiv.sk and other information sources concerning EU events. The event took place in Banská Bystrica on June 22, 2010 involving Robert Hajšel and Mária Kavuláková (European Parliament Information Office in SR), Martina Trégerová (European Documentary Center, University Library at Matej Bel University), Anna Bágeľová (European Documentary Center, Library of Faculty of Law UK) and Zuzana Gabrižová (portal EurActiv.sk).

Strategy 2010 – 2020: Chance for Europe without poverty >>>
The European Parliament Information Office in Slovakia and European Commission Representation in Slovakia in cooperation with Paneuropean Union of Slovakia and Jenewein Group organized conference Strategy 2010 - 2020: Chance for Europe without poverty. It took place on September 3 and 4, 2010 with the participation of Andrea Elscheková-Matisová, Head of European Commission Representation, Robert Hajšel, Director of The European Parliament Information Office in Slovakia, Karl Habsburg, President of Paneuropean Union of Austria, Members of European Parliament and Parliament of Slovak Republic, representatives of Paneuropean Union in Slovakia and Germany and others specialists in social and family policy from government and non-governmental sector. The main topic of the discussion was European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and Strategy Europe 2020 where main priorities are combating poverty.

National meeting of The Model European Parliament >>>
Director of The European Parliament Information Office in SR Robert Hajšel together with the members of Parliament Katarína Neveďalová and Eduard Kukan welcomed on September 24, 2010 in the The European Parliament Information Office in SR delegation of the 6th year of national meeting of The Model European Parliament, that was held in Bratislava on September 24 and 28. The Model European Parliament is a part of an international project organized by Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic via Methodical and Pedagogical Centre in Bratislava and in cooperation with The Model European Parliament Foundation in Haag in Holland.

The European Parliament Information Office in cooperation with Jenewein Group organized a professional seminar in Banská Bystrica as a last out of four planned events for regional journalists in 2010. It took place on October 11, 2010 and, like the previous in Bratislava, Košice and Komárno, it was focused on current topics concerning European Parliament and related changes to the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty. The speakers at the seminar were Vladimír Maňka, Member of European Parliament, Robert Hajšel, Director of The European Parliament Information Office in SR and Radovan Geist, Managing Editor of portal EurActiv.sk. The main topics were: Strengthening the power of European Parliament in the benefit of citizen, Taking decisions on European level and their impact on regions, and Priorities of European Parliament in the context of 2011 budget.

Law as a Unifying Factor of Europe, Jurisprudence and Practice >>>
The European Parliament Information Office in SR together with The European Commission Representation in Slovakia, with The European Law Students´ Association (ELSA) and Parliamentary Institute of Slovak Parliament was a co-organizer of the conference Law as a Unifying Factor of Europe, Jurisprudence and Practice. The international professional conference was organized by Faculty of Law, Comenius University in Bratislava on October 21 and 23, 2010. It was organized on the occasion of 90th anniversary of law science and law education in Slovakia, 60th anniversary of Statement to the unification of Europe presented by Robert Schuman and of 20th anniversary of democratization changes and integration processes in Slovakia. One of the goals of the conference was to contribute to the increase of the European awareness and European cooperation.

Seminar for students in Brussels >>>
The European Parliament Information Office in SR in cooperation with Jenewein Group organized seminar for university students in Brussels on November 9 and 11, 2010. It was a two-day event with in advance planned professional program. Its aim was not only to inform about European Parliament, its principles, competences and current topics but by the form of an excursion and by following discussion to introduce Brussels as a capital of the Union and directly in its centre to clarify the work and way of functioning of European Parliament and other European institutions. The students met with Maroš Šefčovič, vice-president of European Commission, with Slovak Members of European Parliament and with many other professionals. The part of the program became also the visit of consultancy and lobbying company FIPRA - Finsbury International Policy & Regulatory Advisers, where Laurent Willaert discussed with students.

Euroscola Project >>>
One of the activities organized by The European Parliament Information Office is the 6th year of Euroscola project. The project is designed for secondary grammar school students in the age of 16 - 18 years created by European Parliament with the aim to bring its activities and its Members of Parliament to young people. There participated 23 high schools in the project in Slovakia in 2010. The students´ teams having achieved the highest score will visit Strasbourg where they spend one working day in the residence of European Parliament. The ceremony declarating results organized also by Jenewein Group took place in Bratislava on February 11, 2011 by the participation of Members of European Parliament, of director of The European Parliament Information Office in Slovakia and of representatives of students and teachers from eight awarded schools.
